Fort Worth Conference Wrap Up

It was great to see so many Northwest Chapter members at the recent 2015 ARLIS/NA Conference in Fort Worth.
We had a well-attended Chapter Meeting for which you can find the meeting minutes here.
 
I wanted to acknowledge the achievements of some of our members.
 
Several presented engaging projects during the poster sessions (Poster 2.0/ARLISpalooza):

For the session, Linked Open Data: Interconnectivity Amplified, Sarah Seymore, Digital Metadata Technician, and Julia Simic, Metadata and Digital Production Librarian, both of the Digital Scholarship Center at the University of Oregon Libraries, presented on: Migrating to Linked Open Data: The University of Oregon’s Approach. Chapter Vice Chair/Chair-Elect and 2016 Joint Conference Co-Chair, Alan Michelson, gave a great presentation on the upcoming Seattle conference at the Membership Meeting that was very well received.
 
We also had our first chance to show off the “Natural Connections” Joint Conference logo design created by Rachel Kopel and pique people’s interest about 2016 Seattle conference with these Oregon pea pod seed packets. In general, people are excited about coming to Seattle and being in a “green” setting (as I heard it put).

Lastly, we had a pretty great auction basket for the 2015 ARLIS/NA Conference Silent Auction. The contents included:
  •  Chocolates from Chocolate Arts of Vancouver BC featuring medallion designs by Robert Davidson
  • A book card zip case from “Out of Print” filled with Portland and National Parks of the Northwest cards from the Multnomah Co. Library gift shop
  • Earrings created by clsjewelry/Fine Jewelry Designs (Chapter member Christine Sundt)
  • Iconic Portland t-shirt and skull pin from Portland’s Craft Wonderland
  •  A picnic plate designed by Mark Dion and a water bottle featuring Alexander Calder’s “Eagle” from the Seattle Art Museum’s Olympic Sculpture Park
  • 4 issues of Visual Resources: An International Journal of Documentation and
  • A Seattle sock monkey from Ballard Sock Critters of Seattle

Northwest Chapter’s Travel Award Winner to the 2015 ARLIS/NA Conference

Congrats to Nicole Lovenjak, winner of the Northwest Chapter’s Travel Award to the 2015 ARLIS/NA Conference in Fort Worth.

Nicole, who is currently doing a practicum at the Paul D. Fleck Library & Archives, The Banff Centre, is very involved with ARLIS/NA and will be presenting a poster about The Banff Centre’s transition to an open stack artists’ book collection. She also looks forward to talking with others at the conference about the challenges and positive outcomes of her project, Artists’ Books Canada.
